Job summary

Hampshire County Council is seeking a Library Team Assistant at Tadley Library. This busy, people-focused role delivers excellent customer service, runs engaging activities, supports digital access and helps visitors feel welcome.

You will work across Tadley and occasional shifts at Basingstoke Discovery Centre, with fixed shifts on a two-week rota and no Sunday or Bank Holiday work. You will need experience in customer-facing roles, strong communication and digital skills, and a friendly,

  • Strong digital skills with confidence using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and learning new systems.
  • Comfortable using social media to engage with the community and raise awareness of services, with training provided.

Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive space and support customers of all ages to engage with the full range of library services.
  • Lead Rhyme Time and Story Time sessions and promote reading initiatives like the Summer Reading Challenge.
  • Carry out manual tasks such as moving furniture, lifting boxes, and setting up spaces for activities.
  • Help customers build digital confidence across devices and support with admin tasks including payments, calls, and stock management.
  • Promote library services through social media and collaborate with external partners to engage the wider community.

What you’ll do:

Your working pattern
Your main working base will be Tadley Library, but you’ll work 1-2 shifts each week at Basingstoke Discovery Centre. Please note that these are fixed shift patterns and cannot be amended or adjusted.
