Job summary

St Edmund's College, University of Cambridge seeks a Summer Intern to support the Library team from 6 July to 28 August 2026. You'll assist with the Library stock check and gain valuable experience in an academic library environment.

The ideal candidate has strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently with a keen attention to detail. This role offers a working allowance for food and drinks, alongside free car parking where available.

Job description

Contract: Fixed-term, 6 July – 28 August 2026 (Monday–Friday, 1pm–5pm)

Salary: £13.88 per hour + 14.53% holiday allowance

Location: Cambridge, StEdmund’s College

Contract type: Fixed-term, 6 July to 28 August 2026 (Monday to Friday, 1pm to 5pm)

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Summer Intern to support the Library team during the annual stock check period. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in gaining hands‑on experience in an academic library environment while working as part of a friendly and supportive team.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assist with the annual Library stock check, including locating, scanning and verifying items.
  • Work with Library staff to identify missing, mis‑shelved or damaged items.
  • Support the maintenance and organisation of the Library collection.
  • Carry out routine shelving, tidying and collection‑care tasks as required.
  • Complete ad hoc tasks as required.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to take instruction and follow agreed processes
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience working in a Library environment.
  • Understanding of the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
  • Experience using a Library Management System.
  • Understanding of how library data is presented for stock checks and how to process it.
