Job summary

St Raphael's Catholic Primary School in England seeks an enthusiastic level 3 teaching assistant for a fixed term of 12 months. The role requires NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, strong literacy and numeracy, and experience with primary pupils.

30 hours per week, term-time only, base location at the school. You will work with the class teacher to support learning, promote Catholic ethos, provide feedback on pupil progress, and assist with planning and evaluating lessons.

Qualifications

  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with children in primary phases.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and support the Catholic ethos of the school.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom.
  • Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.
  • Promote independence and develop self-reliance.
  • Provide feedback to pupils on progress and achievement.
  • Work with the teacher to establish a learning environment and assist with lesson planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriate.
  • Monitor and evaluate pupils' responses to learning against learning objectives.
  • Provide objective feedback and reports to the teacher on pupil achievement.
  • Provide emergency class cover.
  • Work well in a team.

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract for 12 months

Contract Reason: Subject to funding

Salary: Grade E SCP 11 £20,067 - SCP 16 £21,761 (Actual salary, Part time, TTO)

Hours Per Week: 30 hours

Base Location: St Raphaels Catholic Primary School

Assessment Date: Monday 28th September 2026

The Governing Board of this welcoming, successful school is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated and skilled level 3 teaching assistant. You must have excellent literacy and numeracy skills, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent and experience of working with children in primary phases.

A working understanding of effective teaching and learning is essential, and you must be able to demonstrate an understanding of how children learn.

You must be able to;

  • Promote and support the Catholic ethos of the school
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils within the classroom
  • Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to develop self-reliance
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement
  • Be able to use your initiative while following the overall direction of the class and school policies
  • Work with the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment including support with lesson

planning, evaluating and adjusting lessons/work plans as appropriate

  • Monitor & evaluate pupils' responses to learning against pre-determined learning objectives
  • Provide objective & accurate feedback & reports to the teacher on pupil achievement
  • Provide emergency class cover
  • Work well in a team
