Job summary

Wisbech St Mary CofE Academy is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support a Reception child with significant additional needs, ensuring access to learning and safe participation in the classroom.

You will work closely with staff to assess needs and develop social communication skills, build positive relationships with pupils and carers, and create an inclusive, supportive learning environment across the school.

Qualifications

  • Experience with young children, ideally in Early Years or SEN support.
  • Patience, empathy and strong communication skills are essential.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 or above, or equivalent qualification.
  • NVQ Level 2 in supporting teaching and learning or equivalent.
  • Experience as a Teaching Assistant or similar role.

Responsibilities

  • Providing dedicated support for a Reception child with significant additional needs.
  • Ensure the pupil can access learning, develop social communication skills, and participate safely and inclusively.
  • Assess needs and use knowledge to support pupils' learning.
  • Establish productive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
  • Support pupils consistently while recognising individual needs.
  • Encourage interaction and cooperative work, engaging all pupils in activities.
  • Organise and manage appropriate learning environments and resources.

Key responsibilities:
  • Providing dedicated support for a Reception child with significant additional needs
  • Ensure the pupil can access learning, develop social communication skills, and can participate safely and inclusively in the classroom
  • Assess the needs of pupils and use detailed knowledge and skills to support pupils' learning
  • Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Support pupils consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs
  • Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities
  • Organise and manage appropriate learning environments and resources
Pay, Hours and Contract:
  • Points 5-6 (FTE £26,427 - £26,847)
  • Approximately £18,327 pro rata
  • 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year
  • 8.30am - 3.15pm, Monday - Friday

Qualifications and skills:
  • Experience of working with young children, ideally within Early Years or supporting pupils with special educational needs
  • Demonstrate patience, empathy, and strong communication skills
  • A minimum qualification of GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4 (previously Grade C) or above, or an equivalent qualification
  • NVQ Level 2 in supporting teaching and learning or equivalent
  • Have experience of working with children and/or as a Teaching Assistant
  • Principles and practices of high-quality teaching and learning
  • Ability to build effective relationships with colleagues, parents/carers and members of the community
  • High levels of adaptability and flexibility
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
