Job summary

LeisureSK at Meres Leisure Centre is seeking a Lifeguard to ensure customer safety while supervising the pool and its surrounds. You will perform general lifeguard duties, assist with events, monitor pool conditions and provide excellent customer care in a welcoming manner.

The role involves maintaining PSOP compliance, keeping your NPLQ current through training, and being a calm, proactive member of the team. Casual hours apply, with weekends included.

Qualifications

• Must hold National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ).
• Provide safe pool supervision and maintain poolside safety.
• Interact with customers in a friendly, professional manner.
• Assist with events, checks, cleaning and equipment assembly/disassembly.
• Maintain NPLQ through required training sessions.

Responsibilities

• Undertake lifeguard duties to the standards defined by NPLQ.
• Monitor pool conditions and report issues to the Duty Manager.
• Monitor swimmer numbers and advise the Duty Manager when limits are exceeded.
• Comply with the Pool Safety Operating Procedure (PSOP).
• Maintain your NPLQ by attending training sessions.
• Provide outstanding customer care and assist customers where possible.
• Ensure health and safety of customers at all times.
• Know and follow the Centre Emergencies Procedure.
• Check equipment safety and report malfunctions to the Duty Manager.
• Assist in the preparation and operation of events and activities.
• Carry out cleaning duties and keep storage areas tidy.
• Handle lost property per company procedures.
• Assist in opening/closing the centre daily.
• Complete other tasks as requested by management.

Casual hours available. Our centres are open 7 days per week.

Our Leisure Attendants(lifeguards) have an important role to play in the smooth operation of the leisure centre.

As a Leisure Attendant it would be your responsibility to ensure the safety of our customers whilst supervising the swimming pool and it’s surrounds as a pool lifeguard. You will also be expected to undertake a number of other tasks around the centre such as routine checks, cleaning and assisting with the preparation of events/activities, including the assembly and dismantling of equipment.

As you go about your work, you will regularly interact with customers and will do so in a warm and welcoming way. You will often be the first team member that customers report issues to, and therefore you will have a great deal of responsibility for representing LeisureSK in a professional and efficient manner; remaining calm in difficult situations, being proactive in dealing with issues yourself where possible or reporting immediately to management if not.

• To undertake general lifeguard duties to the standards defined in the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification - ensuring that the poolside is never left unattended for any reason whatsoever.


• To be aware of general pool conditions i.e. water clarity and odour and report any issues to the Duty Manager.


• To monitor the number of swimmers in the pool at any one time and where numbers exceed the specified limits and/or additional lifeguards are required to advise the Duty Manager.


• To comply with the PSOP (Pool Safety Operating Procedure) of the centre at all times.


• You will be required to maintain your NPLQ by attending the required number and frequency of training sessions.


• To provide outstanding customer care at all times, dealing with minor problems and reporting serious issues to the Duty Manager and to provide assistance to customers wherever possible.


• To ensure the health and safety of customers at all times.


• To understand and be fully conversant with the Centre Emergencies Procedure for the building as detailed in the Health and Safety Manual.


• To check the safety of equipment and to report any damage or malfunction of equipment, plant or building fabric to the Duty Manager immediately after discovery.


• To assist in the preparation and operation of events and activities, including the assembly and dismantling of equipment and minor repairs when required.


• To ensure all cleaning duties are carried out as prescribed by the Duty Manager and to maintain storage areas in a clean and tidy condition.


• To ensure that lost property is handled and recorded in line with company procedures.


• To assist in the opening and/or closing of the centre each day.


• To complete from time-to-time other tasks as requested by the management team.
