Job summary

Parkwood Leisure Limited is seeking a Recreation Assistant to engage in a full range of leisure activities at the centre in Lewisham. The role focuses on customer care, safety and delivering a welcoming, well-run facility for all users.

You will work with a team to meet usage targets, uphold hygiene standards and support the Duty Manager with security and daily operations. A positive, professional image and flexibility to cover shifts are essential.

Qualifications

• General education and a desire to achieve a leisure management qualification.
• Ideally possess a current first aid qualification.
• RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Guide, care for and assist all Leisure Centre customers.
• Facilitate a friendly but efficient working relationship with users of the centre.
• Work as part of a team to achieve the centre's objectives and usage targets.
• Innovate ideas and initiate actions to increase centre usage.
• Ensure all facilities are presented to high levels of cleanliness and comfort.
• Assist the Duty Manager in facility control and security, ensuring safe storage of equipment.
• Be aware of Health and Safety issues and implement procedures to address unsafe practices.
• Ensure all parts of the centre are safe and secure when not in use.
• Cover duties of other staff as required.
• Undertake any other duties to assist in running the Leisure Centre.
• Portray a positive image of the Leisure Centre, wearing the uniform on duty.

Job description

The role of Recreation Assistant is a great position to be able to carry out and be involved in the full range of leisure activities. Continually customers facing the role provide rewarding opportunities. Meeting new people, variation in both activities and learning provides an exciting working day, every day, for our Recreation Assistants.

Recreation Assistants will perform duties pertaining to both wet and dry sites.

Primary Objectives for the Recreation Assistant will be:

• To ensure the safety of and enjoyment of everybody using the Leisure Centre.

• To partake in the management of all aspects of the daily activities of the Centre.

The Recreation Assistant will focus day to day on the following tasks:

• To guide, care for and assist all Leisure Centre customers.

• To facilitate a friendly but efficient working relationship with the people who use the Leisure Centre.

• To work as part of a team to achieve the objectives and usage targets of the Leisure Centre.

• To innovate ideas and initiate action to increase the usage of the Leisure Centre.

• To ensure all facilities are presented to the highest levels of cleanliness and comfort.

• Assist the Duty Manager in the effective control and security of the facility, patrolling all appropriate areas ensuring that equipment is stored safely and securely.

• To be aware of all Health and Safety issues within the Centre, to constantly implement and assess procedures drawing attention to any unsafe practices.

• To ensure all parts of the Centre are safe and secure when not in use.

• To cover duties of such other members of staff as required.

• To undertake any other duties as may be required to assist in the running of the Leisure Centre.

• Portray a positive image of the Leisure Centre, wearing the uniform provided whilst on duty.

THE CANDIDATE

Qualifications

The post holder should have a good general education and a desire to achieve a leisure management qualification. Ideally the postholder will possess a current first aid qualification and have the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification.
