Position

Role: Foundation Community Leisure Assistant

Location: WHU Foundation Hub, Beckton, East London

Contract- Part Time- 28 hours per week- Evenings and weekends required | Rota-based shifts

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Start Date: June 2025 (upon reopening of Community Hub)

West Ham United Foundation is the charitable arm of West Ham United FC, delivering over 35 impactful community programmes across East London, Essex, and internationally – reaching more than 50,000 participants each season. As we prepare to relaunch our newly refurbished Community Hub in June 2025, we are looking for two enthusiastic and dedicated Leisure Assistants to join our Facilities Team.

Our Community Hub and 3G pitch serve as inclusive, welcoming, and safe spaces that support a wide range of community engagement and sports development initiatives.

As a Leisure Assistant, you will support the day-to-day operations of the Foundation's Community Hub and 3G pitch facility. You will play a vital role in delivering excellent customer service, supporting programme delivery, and ensuring the safe and effective running of all site activities. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position ideal for someone passionate about sport, community work, and helping others.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Experience: Deliver a high standard of customer service at the reception desk, handling enquiries, taking payments, managing bookings,

and supporting all visitors.

  • Facility Operations: Assist with opening and closing the site, supervise car park and access points, set up and pack away equipment, and support

site logistics.

  • Site Maintenance: Ensure all equipment and spaces (indoor and outdoor) are clean, safe, and ready for use.
  • Programme Support: Help prepare for and deliver a range of Foundation programmes and events, both indoors and on the 3G pitch.
  • Activity Coordination: Oversee changeovers between bookings and ensure adherence to schedules.
  • Event Assistance: Support delivery of community events, birthday parties, and special activities.
  • Health & Safety: Follow safeguarding and safety protocols, assist with emergency drills, complete incident reports, and administer basic first aid.
  • Administration: Perform admin tasks such as maintaining records, stock checking, using booking systems, and supporting general office duties.
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all users, especially children, young people, and vulnerable adults.

Requirements

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications And Experience

  • GCSE Maths and English or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Experience in customer-facing or facility support roles
  • Basic ICT skills (email, spreadsheets, booking systems)
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety and safeguarding procedures

Desirable

  • Experience in leisure, sport, or education settings
  • First Aid and/or Safeguarding training
  • Experience with 3G pitch maintenance
  • Relevant qualifications in Health & Social Care, Leisure, or Customer Service

Additional Information

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

You will be required to work evenings and weekends on a rotational basis.
