Job description
Role Overview

This post's purpose is to provide broad general medical experience at ST3+ level or equivalent and offer excellent opportunities to develop skills in education, management or research. Previous academic experience is not required.

We are looking for someone who is curious, open‑minded and keen to learn. You will be enthusiastic about elderly medicine and looking after people. You will be flexible, considerate and a good communicator. We will try to help you reach your full potential and will offer career guidance and support.

Key responsibilities
  • Care of in‑patients.
  • Accurate and timely clinical records and correspondence.
  • Clear & respectful communication with patients and professionals.
  • Teaching students.
  • Participating in departmental governance and training meetings.
  • Creating a focused personal development plan.
  • Participating on the general medicine on‑call rota.
  • Acute Geriatrics service: COPS input to frail older patients in accident & emergency and the acute admissions unit. The acute geriatrics consultant works in parallel with an acute medical consultant on the AMU and is supported by a team of junior doctors & registrars, therapists and older adult specialist nurses, with an average caseload of 15‑20 patients.
  • Acute inpatient care on T10: carried out by three separate teams, each led by a consultant and supported by registrars/CMTs/Foundation trainees.
  • Ortho‑geriatrics Liaison Service: average 5‑10 cases. Liaison model whereby patients stay under care of the orthopaedic team, with an ortho‑geriatrics consultant & registrar providing specialist reviews for hip fracture patients.
  • Gastroenterology surgical liaison service: average 5‑10 cases. Liaison model whereby patients stay under care of the surgical team, with a geriatrics consultant & registrar providing specialist reviews.
  • Community services: domiciliary visits / MDTs / nursing home work within Camden & Islington.
  • Older Adult Assessment team: specialist nurses support delivery of excellent care for frail older patients with particular focus on dementia and delirium.
  • Outpatients: two general elderly medicine clinics, a multidisciplinary falls clinic, and two rapid access clinics.
