Job summary

Nottingham College is seeking a knowledgeable science educator to plan and deliver engaging lessons across Level 1 to 3 and degree-level courses. You will adapt resources to diverse abilities, assess progress, and support students' wider development within a collaborative team.

We value recent UK teaching experience and a degree in science, with the ability to teach Biology, Physics, or Chemistry at Level 3.

Job description

  • Plan and deliver engaging science teaching that responds to different students' needs and supports progress across the programmes you teach.
  • Assess learning and provide constructive feedback, helping students understand their progress, build on their strengths and work towards their goals.
  • Create inclusive and motivating learning experiences, adapting resources and teaching approaches so that students with different abilities and backgrounds can participate and succeed.
  • Support students' wider development, including their academic progress, personal targets and pastoral needs, working with colleagues and specialist teams where additional support is required.

You’ll be a knowledgeable and enthusiastic science educator who enjoys helping learners understand how science connects to the world around them. To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • A relevant degree in a science subject.
  • Recent teaching experience within the UK education system, ideally in Further Education or a comparable setting.
  • The ability to teach Biology, Physics or Chemistry at Level 3 is essential.
  • An understanding of science curriculum requirements across academic and vocational programmes, which may include BTEC, Access to Higher Education and T Levels.
  • The ability to adapt your teaching to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences for students with different needs, abilities and aspirations.
  • A recognised teaching qualification, or a willingness to work towards a Level 5 teaching qualification within an agreed timeframe. The College will provide support for this.

What you’ll do

The Science Faculty, based at our flagship City Hub campus, offers a wide range of subjects in a friendly and supportive environment, with first‑class teaching and modern facilities. You’ll bring science to life for students across a range of programmes, including Levels 1 to 3 and degree‑level courses. We are particularly interested in hearing from Chemistry specialists who can inspire curiosity and make science engaging, accessible and relevant, creating inclusive learning experiences that inspire students to achieve their full potential and develop a genuine passion for the subject.

  • Competitive salary – £33,742 – £42,182 per annum FTE. (This will be pro‑rata for part time posts)
