Job summary

PeoplePlus is seeking a compassionate Learning Support Practitioner to join our Prison Education team. You will support learners with ALN and SEND, providing tailored in-class or one-to-one assistance to help them succeed in their studies and beyond.

You will collaborate with tutors and prison staff to maintain accurate records, develop support plans, and monitor wellbeing through regular reviews, ensuring a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English (Grade C or above).
• Experience supporting learners with SEND or ALN.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to manage a caseload and maintain accurate records.
• Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice.
• Organised, proactive, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good IT skills and administrative capability.
• Passion for supporting learners to achieve and overcome barriers.

Responsibilities

• Build positive relationships with learners to understand their needs and support their learning journey.
• Provide tailored, in-class or one-to-one support for learners with ALN (including disabilities).
• Inspire, motivate, and help learners develop confidence, independence, and self-advocacy skills.
• Monitor learner wellbeing and check progress regularly through face-to-face reviews.
• Develop and maintain course-specific support plans aligned to SEND graduated approach.
• Review and update support plans regularly, including for learners transferring between establishments.
• Use assessment tools to inform tailored learning strategies.
• Record and manage all support documentation within MoJ systems.
• Work closely with tutors, trainers, and prison teams to ensure effective support is in place.
