  • Desirable Level 3 qualification in Learning Disabilities; prison/EIF experience.

Responsibilities

Job Title: Learning Support Practitioner

Location: HMP Littlehey (Perry, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire)

Salary: £26,227.50 per annum

Contract: Permanent, Full-Time

The Opportunity

Are you a compassionate, organized support professional looking for a deeply rewarding role where your daily work helps individuals overcome barriers to learning? Do you want to play a crucial role in prison rehabilitation by supporting adult learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and additional learning needs (ALN)?

We are recruiting for a dedicated Learning Support Practitioner to join the prison education team on-site at HMP Littlehey. Working directly alongside tutors, healthcare teams, and neurodiversity specialists, you will provide essential one-to-one and small group support-empowering learners to build confidence, access the curriculum, and achieve qualifications that support their long-term rehabilitation.

What You Will Be Doing

Tailored Learner Support: Deliver dedicated in-class and one-to-one assistance for learners with SEND or additional learning needs, building positive relationships that boost self-esteem, independence, and self-advocacy.

Support Planning & Profiling: Utilize assessment tools (such as the Do IT Profiler) to construct, maintain, and regularly review course-specific support plans aligned with the SEND graduated approach.

Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with tutors, prison staff, healthcare practitioners, and neurodiversity specialists to ensure reasonable adjustments are made for classroom tasks and formal assessments.

Documentation & Compliance: Accurately record, track, and manage all support documentation within Ministry of Justice (MoJ) systems, ensuring full compliance with prison security, safeguarding, and quality standards.

Inclusive Environment: Foster a safe, inclusive learning space, assisting with student support cover and contributing to a whole-prison approach to additional learning needs.

What We Are Looking For

Core Qualifications: GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade C / Grade 4 or above.

Specialist Experience: Proven experience supporting individuals with SEND or additional learning needs, along with a solid understanding of effective support strategies and the SEND Code of Practice.

Administrative & IT Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage a diverse caseload, maintain accurate MoJ records, and use educational IT software effectively.

Key Attributes: Excellent communication, a proactive and empathetic approach, resilience, and a genuine passion for helping adult learners overcome educational barriers.

Desirable Criteria: Level 3 qualification in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities (or willingness to obtain one), prior experience within prison or secure environments, and familiarity with Ofsted's Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
