Job summary

Wigan and Leigh College in Wigan is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to support learners in the Sports department. The role is fixed-term for the 2026/27 academic year, term time only, and involves assisting students with learning difficulties, disabilities or medical needs across classrooms, workshops, and trips.

You will work with teaching staff to adapt materials, use assistive technology, and provide feedback on progress while maintaining safeguarding standards.

Qualifications

• Ability to work with learners with a range of needs and barriers to learning.
• Experience supporting learners or people with additional needs is desirable.
• Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive practice.

Responsibilities

• Support individual learners and groups in line with learning plans.
• Help learners access lessons, practical sessions and college activities.
• Work with staff to adapt materials and delivery as needed.
• Take notes for learners where this is part of agreed support.
• Support learners with assistive technology and equipment.
• Record information using college systems and contribute to reviews.
