As a Learning Support Assistant in Nelson, you will work closely with teaching staff and the school's specialist SEND team to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs.
You will help pupils access the curriculum, develop their communication and social skills, build confidence and independence, and overcome barriers to learning.
The role will involve developing positive relationships with pupils and providing consistent, patient and compassionate support throughout the school day. You may provide one-to-one and small-group support, helping pupils with their learning, communication, emotional regulation, personal development and engagement.
Working within a specialist SEN setting, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience supporting pupils with a range of needs, including autism, communication difficulties, behavioural needs and other additional learning needs.
Previous experience working in education is not essential. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who have experience in support work, care, residential settings, youth work or working with young adults, as these skills can be highly transferable to supporting pupils with additional needs.
