Job summary

Rotherwood Education are recruiting for a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary SEND school in the Nelson area, Lancashire. The role is full-time and ongoing, starting ASAP, with a daily rate of £85–£95 depending on experience.

You will provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEND, help them access lessons, and assist with social, emotional and communication development, in a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant/SEND qualification, or have relevant experience.
• Experienced in supporting children with SEND and accessing learning.
• Willing to complete safeguarding checks and DBS where required.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEND.
• Support pupils to access learning and participate in lessons.
• Assist pupils with social, emotional and communication development.
• Support students with needs such as Autism, ADHD, SEMH and learning difficulties.
• Work with teachers and SEND team to meet individual learning needs.
• Follow individual education plans and support personalised activities.
• Encourage positive behaviour, independence and engagement.
• Assist with classroom activities and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school and pupils' development.

About the SEND Teaching Assistant Role

The Ideal SEND Teaching Assistant Will

• Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant/SEND qualification, or have relevant experience

• Have experience supporting children or young people with SEND

• Be confident providing one-to-one and small-group support

• Have a patient, calm and positive approach

• Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Be committed to supporting the progress and wellbeing of all pupils

• Be committed to the safeguarding of children and young people

• Provide details of the 2 most recent references, covering the last 5 years' work history

• Possess a current DBS check or be prepared to apply for one as part of registration

• Be willing to complete a face-to-face registration and satisfy the required safeguarding and compliance checks
