Job summary

Academics is seeking a proactive SEN Learning Support Assistant to support children and young people with Autism, SEMH and other needs in a therapeutic education setting. You will work closely with teachers to create a safe, engaging learning environment.

The role focuses on one-to-one and small-group support, emotional regulation, personal development and inclusion, helping students access personalised learning programmes while building confidence.

SEN Learning Support Assistant

Are you passionate about making a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs?

We are recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist therapeutic education setting supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including Autism, SEMH and other barriers to learning.

The school provides specialist education for children and young people who may have found traditional education challenging. Through a combination of therapeutic support, personalised learning and trusted relationships, the school helps every young person build confidence, develop their potential and create a future they may never have thought possible.

The Role

As a SEN Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to support students both academically and emotionally.

You will help to create a safe, positive and engaging learning environment where every student feels understood, supported and encouraged to succeed.

  • Supporting children and young people with Autism, SEMH needs and other additional learning needs
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support
  • Helping students to access personalised learning programmes
  • Supporting emotional regulation, wellbeing and positive behaviour
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and social development
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and other members of the wider team
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs
  • Resilient and able to remain calm in challenging situations
  • A strong communicator and team player
  • Interested in understanding behaviour and the reasons behind it
  • Committed to helping young people develop academically, socially and emotionally

Previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism, SEMH, behavioural needs or other additional needs would be beneficial, although the right attitude, transferable skills and genuine passion for supporting young people will also be highly valued.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy
