Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a Primary School in Houghton-le-Spring. The role is long or short-term, with potential for temporary, permanent or temp-to-perm, starting in September.

You will support pupils academically and pastorally, working with the class teacher and team to help learners overcome barriers, develop confidence and achieve potential in an inclusive environment.

Qualifications

  • Recent experience working in a school, education or youth setting.
  • Experience supporting children or young people with learning, wellbeing or behaviour.
  • Solid literacy and numeracy skills.
  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education or similar subject, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • A patient, supportive and encouraging approach to working with young people.
  • Comfortable taking direction from the class teacher and working as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils one-to-one and in small groups, addressing learning and pastoral needs.
  • Helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and develop confidence and independence.
  • Supporting literacy, numeracy and wider learning needs.
  • Working with the class teacher and school team to adapt resources and support learners.
  • Promoting an inclusive classroom where every student feels safe and valued.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils develop routines and learning habits.

We’re currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to join a Primary School in Houghton-le-Spring on a long or short-term basis, starting in September. This role offers the potential to be temporary, permanent or temp-to-perm.

You’ll be supporting pupils both academically and pastorally, helping them overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence and skills they need to succeed.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Working alongside the class teacher and wider school team to adapt resources and support individual learners

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils develop strong routines and learning habits
