Job summary

Dovetail and Slate is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to empower students with diverse needs within a college setting. You will support learners 1:1, in-class, and on community activities, helping them progress toward EHCP milestones and independence.

Ideal candidates have experience with SEND, patience, and a commitment to safeguarding. Enhanced DBS is preferred; term-time only with flexible hours, Monday to Friday, no weekends.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting high-needs learners or providing general classroom assistance.
  • Experience with EHCP milestones and learner progression.
  • Enhanced DBS certificate preferred.
  • Ability to work with teaching staff to differentiate resources.
  • Commitment to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

Responsibilities

  • Support special-needs students 1:1, in-class, or out-of-class to progress toward EHCP goals.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to differentiate and modify curriculum resources.
  • Record support interactions to help the college maintain statutory EHCP records.
  • Assist with community-based trips and active sessions.

Employment Type: Temporary, ongoing contract, term-time only, ASAP start


Hours: fleixable hours availability, full-time or part-time (Standard working day is 08:30 - 16:30)


Salary: 17,50 per hour via Umbrella

These roles are about more than classroom assistance; they are about empowering students to master the skills they need for life. You will be a key point of support, blending patience with strategy to ensure our learners are ready for the world beyond the college gates.



  • Great Work-Life Balance: Term-time only, strictly Monday to Friday (08:30 - 16:00) with no weekend or evening shifts.

  • Support special-needs students on a 1:1, in-class, or out-of-class basis to progress toward their EHCP milestones, developmental goals, and vocational aspirations.

  • Collaborate closely with teaching staff to differentiate and modify curriculum resources, including supporting students during active sessions and community-based trips.

  • Complete administrative responsibilities by recording support interactions constructively, helping the college maintain statutory records for EHCP annual reviews



  • Experience supporting young people with additional needs (such as ASD, SEMH, sensory, or learning difficulties) in an educational, healthcare, or community setting.

  • Having an Enhanced DBS certificate.
