Job summary

Dovetail and Slate in Stoke-on-Trent is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join a supportive team in a permanent, term-time only role. You will assist teaching staff across a range of academic and vocational areas, contributing to an inclusive learning environment for the local community.

We welcome those new to learning support and offer guidance and pathways to develop skills in FE and special education, with a focus on empowering learners to overcome barriers and progress to future

Qualifications

• Level 2 GCSE English and Maths is essential.
• Enhanced DBS check with Barred Lists is required for this post.
• Experience supporting young people in educational settings, LLDD/SEND experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Academic and vocational support: assist staff in classrooms and across the centre, supporting learners across diverse subjects.
• Learner empowerment: motivate students and tailor learning programmes to individual needs and abilities.
• Progress tracking: provide feedback on learner progress against targets in academic, vocational and pastoral areas.
• Outcome focus: help learners stay focused on achieving progression goals and futures.
• Multidisciplinary collaboration: work with external agencies in multi‑agency settings to support holistic student needs.

Hours: Full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:30-16:30

Salary: £22,981 actual per annum (Pro-rata, based on a £24,540 full-time equivalent)

Key Responsibilities:

• Academic & Vocational Support: Assist teaching staff in the classroom and around the centre, supporting learners across a variety of vocational and academic subjects.
• Learner Empowerment: Actively engage and motivate students, supporting the delivery of tailored learning programmes catered to individual abilities, needs, and interests.
• Progress Tracking: Provide detailed feedback to teaching staff on learner progress against set academic, vocational, and pastoral targets.
• Outcome Focus: Help learners maintain focus on achieving their desired outcomes and preparing for future progression destinations.
• Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Develop positive working relationships with external agencies and collaborate effectively in multi-agency settings to support holistic student needs.

Requirements:

• Level 2 (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent) in English and Maths is essential.
• An Enhanced DBS check with Barred Lists is strictly required for this post.
• Previous experience supporting young people in an educational or FE setting, particularly those with LLDD/SEND needs, is advantageous, though full support is given to those new to the field.
