Job description

Learning Support Assistant

Location: Nottingham & surrounding areas

Start Date: ASAP / Ongoing Opportunities

Salary: £95-£110 per day, depending on experience

Are you passionate about supporting children and helping them reach their full potential?

Do you enjoy working with primary-aged children and creating a positive, engaging and supportive learning environment?

Are you looking for flexible work or longer-term opportunities across a range of primary schools in Nottingham and the surrounding areas?

Teacher Active is looking to expand our team of enthusiastic, reliable and committed Learning Support Assistants to work with our partner primary schools across Nottingham and the surrounding areas.

We work closely with a variety of mainstream primary schools, offering regular opportunities to support pupils across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

Whether you're looking for flexible day-to-day supply, short-term cover or a longer-term placement, we have opportunities to suit a range of preferences and availability. These roles are ideal for experienced Learning Support Assistants looking for flexibility, as well as those keen to gain further experience within primary education.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll play an important role in helping children develop their skills, confidence and independence while making the most of their learning opportunities.

Depending on the school and pupils' needs, your responsibilities may include:
  • Supporting pupils within the classroom to help them access their learning.
  • Providing 1:1 support for children who need additional guidance.
  • Working with small groups and delivering targeted learning interventions.
  • Supporting pupils with SEN, ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties and other additional learning needs.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour, engagement and participation in lessons.
  • Building trusting relationships with pupils and promoting independence.
  • Working closely with class teachers to support children's learning, development and wellbeing.
  • Helping to create a safe, inclusive and nurturing classroom environment.
The Ideal Learning Support Assistant

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Experience within a primary school, nursery, SEN setting or similar environment.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's learning and development.
  • The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • A patient, calm and nurturing approach.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
  • Flexibility, reliability and a willingness to adapt to different settings.
  • Previous school experience is desirable but not essential for the right candidate. A positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a genuine commitment to helping children succeed are just as important.
What We Offer
  • A dedicated team of consultants available 24/7.
  • Access to a wide range of primary schools across Nottingham and the surrounding areas.
  • Flexible day-to-day supply and longer-term opportunities.
  • The opportunity to work across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
  • The chance to gain valuable experience across a variety of primary school settings.
  • CPD courses and certificates through our My-Progression platform.
