Long Term Futures is recruiting a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a secondary school in Camden, North London. This full-time opportunity involves supporting students across the classroom, providing additional assistance to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), and helping young people engage positively with their education.

We are looking for someone with previous school-based experience who can confidently support secondary-aged pupils with varying learning needs. The successful candidate will work alongside teaching staff to promote participation, build student confidence and help create a positive learning environment. This is a long-term position with the opportunity to progress into permanent employment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general classroom support to teachers, helping students remain focused, engaged and ready to learn.
  • Deliver targeted 1:1 support to pupils who require additional assistance with their learning.
  • Lead and support small-group activities to reinforce lesson content and develop key skills.
  • Assist students with Special Educational Needs (SEN), adapting support to their individual learning requirements.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence and active participation throughout the school day.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the wider support team to implement appropriate learning strategies.
  • Help students understand classroom instructions, complete assigned tasks and overcome barriers to learning.
  • Monitor pupil engagement and progress, sharing relevant observations with teaching staff.
  • Support an inclusive classroom environment where students feel respected, encouraged and able to contribute.
  • Follow school safeguarding procedures and report any welfare concerns promptly to the appropriate staff member.
  • Previous experience working in a school setting, ideally supporting secondary-aged pupils.
  • Experience assisting students with learning activities and managing classroom expectations.
  • Confidence supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and adapting approaches to individual requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to establish professional, supportive relationships with students and staff.
  • A patient, adaptable and proactive approach to supporting young people.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider school team.
  • Availability to work full-time on a long-term basis.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new Enhanced DBS check.

Previous experience delivering 1:1 interventions, supporting small groups or working with pupils with additional learning needs would be particularly beneficial. Candidates who have supported students with a range of abilities and learning styles are encouraged to apply.
