Tuesday & Thursday 10.30am to 2.30pm
Salary: HCC H4 Scale Point 6* actualsalary £12,132 per annum
including outer fringe allowance, basedon 20 hours per week, term time only

We are seeking to appoint a passionate and imaginativeindividual to help instil a love of reading within our popular andwell-resourced Learning Resources Centre (LRC). The LRC is in constant usethroughout the day and the centre is well supported by a fantastic team ofstudent helpers. The successful candidate will be able to build positiveprofessional relationships with students and supervise the learning environmentand resources accordingly.
The post holder will work closely with our Learning ResourcesCentre Manager and be responsible for helping to organise library andinformation resources to support teaching and learning throughout the school,facilitate independent learning and promote and reward reading for pleasure.The post holder will help to promote the love of reading and research(including digital) and will be expected to support library-based events and activities.
Main responsibilities will include:
- Providing guidance andassistance to students and staff on information retrieval and reading materialsto encourage the development of independent learners
- Promoting an atmosphereconducive to reading and learning and supervising silent Sixth Form privatestudy
- Supervising LRC usersduring the day and after school, ensuring that the centre is an effectivelearning space at all times and challenging poor behaviour when required
- Maintaining and recordingaccurately the use of library resources, including digital
- Effective use of librarymanagement software
- Assisting withmaintaining a good range of fiction for all reading abilities and ages to helppromote literacy
- Inspiring students toread widely
- Engaging with nationaland international events (e.g. World Book Day, International Women's Day, Anti-BullyingWeek, Black History Season, Pride, etc.) and promoting awareness and interestin these events via the LRC resources
- Contribute to theselection of resources to encourage diversity, whilst promoting an awareness ofworld, local, social & health issues
- Helping with organisingand training the team of voluntary student helpers to support the day-to-dayrunning of the LRC
- Provide support with ITequipment and printer
- Register ad-hoc students asand when required
- Any other duties as deemed reasonable andnecessary by the Learning Resources Centre Manager
The successful candidate will:
- Possess GCSEor equivalent qualifications in Maths and English at 4-9 (A*-C)
- Have experience in a similarrole
- Be computer literate withstrong MS Office skills
- Have a strong knowledge andlove of children's literature
- Be compassionate and caringwith an understanding of students with SEN
- Have the skills and confidence to be ableto instruct groups of young people and manage behaviour
- Be resilientand assertive when required
- Promote self-esteem andconfidence and help students to become emotionally healthy
- Havethe ability to communicate effectively with all members of the school communityand remain calm when under pressure
- Be positiveand flexible, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to use yourinitiative
- Be able toadapt and react within a fast-paced environment, managing conflictingpriorities
- Have excellentattention to detail, with the ability to work accurately and independently
- Be able tosolve problems, exercise responsible judgement when appropriate and makedecisions
- Understand the need for high levels ofconfidentiality, discretion and integrity in the school environment
- Have theability to work individually and as part of a team within a busy environment
- Bean enthusiastic, committed and ambitious team player, open to learning andprofessional development
- Be astrong presence with a hardworking and proactive approach
Knowledge of Arbor and Oliveris desirable but not essential as training can be provided.
