Job summary

Peterborough Regional College is seeking a Library and Digital Learning Assistant to support student learning by managing resource systems and guiding learners through the digital landscape.

  • Manage financial systems by raising purchasing orders, receiving items, and sending invoices via the Finance system.
  • Process physical library inventory and stock processing following established procedures.
  • Resolve user inquiries using printed resources, subject-specific electronic resources, e-books and the VLE.
  • Lead student centre inductions and promote learning resource centres to curriculum areas.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Your main duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following areas:

  • Operate digital library software: Utilize the Heritage Cirqa computerised system for loans, membership, reservations, enquiries, overdues, invoicing, notifications, and new records.
  • Coordinate resource procurement: Assist with checking reading lists, respond to purchasing requests, and create online orders.
  • Manage financial systems: Raise purchasing orders, receive items, and send invoices via the Finance system.
  • Process physical library inventory: Handle new stock arrival following established stock processing procedures.
  • Resolve user inquiries: Deal with general information enquiries using printed resources, subject-specific electronic resources, e-books, and the VLE.
  • Lead student center inductions: Contribute to Digital Learning Resource Centre student inductions.
  • Promote learning resource centers: Liaise with curriculum areas to promote usage of the Learning Resource Centre.
  • Represent the library department: Participate in course team meetings and cross-campus committees.
  • Elevate student digital literacy: Supervise students working in the Learning Resource Centre and provide technical support on IT equipment and software.
  • Maintain facility housekeeping: Carry out general housekeeping tasks including shelving, stock replacement, repair, and renewal.
  • Execute standard administrative tasks: Undertake general administrative duties as required by the team.
  • Design promotional center materials: Create displays, produce leaflets, and draft guides to raise awareness of resources during promotional events.
  • Analyse facility feedback data: Assist in the analysis of data gathered from Digital Learning Resource Centre surveys and questionnaires.
  • Process cash register transactions: Use a till to process sales, cash up, and reconcile daily takings.
  • Manage multichannel communication: Handle day-to-day enquiries in person, over the phone, via email, or through electronic meetings.
  • Support diverse learning abilities: Assist students of all abilities to help them study effectively and utilize a wide range of learning resources.
  • Enforce positive study environments: Ensure the center offers an environment conducive to learning and confidently challenge inappropriate behaviours.
  • Identify new learning assets: Assist in the development of library, IT, and learning resources by identifying new assets to support student learning.
  • Adapt to flexible scheduling: Work unsupervised at times (including periods of lone working) and work across both campuses to cover sickness and holidays.
  • Support campus-wide events: Assist with College enrolment and open evenings as required.
