Job summary

Heart of Worcestershire College is seeking a part-time Learning Centre Assistant for the Redditch campus. The role is 18 hours per week across 38 weeks, with a salary of up to £10,243.82 including holiday pay. Travel to other campuses may be required.

The successful candidate will provide excellent customer service in the Learning Centre, assist with IT tasks, and support students and staff with resources and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Create ID cards and help students with the activation of their network accounts.
  • Assist students with the use of basic software packages and printing facilities.
  • Assist in locating resources in the Learning Centre and demonstrating the catalogue and e-resources.
  • Maintain Learning Centre stock using Heritage Cirqa.
  • Supervise ILT software and provide support in its use, and report attendance.

To become a Centre Assistant in our Learning resources department, we need someone who is “supportive, team player and can work off their own initiative.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

In summary, as someone who has experience in providing support to people of a wide range of ages and abilities and Good I.T. skills , you will support in many aspects. To name a few:

  • Provide a comprehensive customer service for all Learning Centre users including answering enquiries via telephone, email and face-to-face interactions.
  • Carry out desk duties in the Learning Centres, including the issuing and returning of resources, shelving returned materials, general tidying of the Learning Centres, taking payments for services such as printing, copying, and sale of stationery.
  • To book groups in the Learning Centre as requested, liaising with the Timetabling Team, including for Thrive and Elements sessions. Monitor and report on attendance as required.

JOB DESCRIPTION

POST TITLE: Learning Centre Assistant

DIRECTORATE/DEPARTMENT: Learning Resources

GRADE: 3D

LOCATION: Redditch Campus

RESPONSIBLE TO: Academic and Digital Skills Enhancement Manager

AIM AND PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The purpose of the role is to provide customer services within the Learning Centre to support students and staff using facilities and resources, duties in this position will include dealing with desk and telephone enquiries, handling stock within the Learning Centre and providing administrative support as required.

KEY ROLES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Provide a comprehensive customer service for all Learning Centre users including answering enquiries via telephone, email and face-to-face interactions.
  • Carry out desk duties in the Learning Centres, including the issuing and returning of resources, shelving returned materials, general tidying of the Learning Centres, taking payments for services such as printing, copying, sale of stationery and fines.
  • Create ID cards and help students with the activation of their network accounts, including WiFi access.
  • To assist students with the use of basic software packages and printing facilities.
  • Assist students and staff in locating relevant resources in the Learning Centre both printed and electronic, including demonstrating the use of the catalogue and e-resources.
  • Maintain and develop Learning Centre stock through the ordering, processing, stock-checking and withdrawing of materials using Heritage Cirqa.
  • Supervise and provide support in the use of ILT software, electronic resources, the internet and

  • Liaise with the IT helpdesk regarding IT account queries and reporting any hardware or software issues.
  • To facilitate and deliver induction sessions in the use of the Learning Centre.
  • To assist students in using Harvard referencing.
  • To assist students in their use of ProMonitor.
  • Assist in the promotion of Learning Centre services via the creation and maintenance of displays and notices, online content and delivery of competitions and events throughout the year.
  • Attend Learning Centre team meetings, mandatory training and relevant staff development sessions and participate in the Performance Development Review process.
  • To work in any Learning Centre as required for operational need including evenings.
  • To undertake duties as a First Aider.
  • To undertake duties as a Fire Marshal.
  • To undertake duties as an Exam Invigilator.
  • Assist the Customer Services team during enrolment and open events.
  • Liaise with colleagues across the college as appropriate in terms of referring students to Student Services and Academic Skills Support.
  • Assume responsibility for the Learning Centre when working on occasions when no other members of staff are on duty. This involves ensuring the good behaviour of all users, conforming to the Learning Centre and HOW College regulations and maintaining levels of security and safety at all times.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • To commit to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • To participate in the College’s Performance Management Scheme and attend such training events as are necessary to enable him/her to carry out the duties of the job description.
  • To continually improve teaching, learning and assessment through proactive CPD and sharing best practice.
  • To actively participate in the College’s Quality System, including quality improvement strategies and initiatives.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be assigned commensurate with the grade and purpose of the post.
  • To take reasonable care for the health and safety of him/her and for others affected by his/her work.
  • To actively support College Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity policies.
  • To operate/conduct all HR tasks and functions within the principles of GDPR.
