Job summary

Teaching Personnel Ltd. is seeking Learning Mentors to support students in Sunderland secondary schools. This role combines academic guidance with pastoral support to help learners build confidence and reach their potential.

You will run 1:1 and small-group mentoring, set targets, and work with teachers to coordinate progress. A proactive, patient, and solution-focused approach is essential for long-term school improvement.

Qualifications

• Experience in a mentoring, learning support, youth work, or educational role.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
• Strong communication skills across students, staff, and families.

Responsibilities

• Delivering regular 1:1 and small group mentoring sessions focused on academic progress and personal development.
• Setting achievable targets with students and supporting them to work toward them.
• Building trusted, motivating relationships with underachieving or disengaged students.
• Liaising with subject teachers, heads of year, and the SENCO to ensure a coordinated approach.
• Monitoring student progress and contributing to reviews and reports.
• Supporting students through transitions, exam periods, and other challenging points in the school year.
• Upholding safeguarding responsibilities at all times.
