Job summary

Sowing Seeds Alternative Learning Limited is seeking passionate Learning Mentors to support children and young people across West Yorkshire. This role provides personalised guidance to help learners build confidence, emotional resilience, communication, independence and engagement with learning.

You will work with tutors, families and professionals to implement tailored strategies that support each learner’s outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience in education, teaching, youth work, mentoring or supporting children and young people.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND or barriers to education.
• Understanding of autism, ADHD, anxiety, EBSA, SEMH and inclusive practice.
• A calm, patient and flexible approach.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• Ability to motivate learners and adapt support to their individual needs.
• Willingness and ability to travel across West Yorkshire.
• A full, clean UK driving licence.
• Access to a suitable and reliable vehicle.
• Willingness and confidence to transport learners when required.
• Appropriate business-use motor insurance, or willingness to obtain it.
• Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Build trusting relationships with learners to develop confidence, motivation and engagement.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring based on individual needs and outcomes.
• Support learners with education, social communication, emotional regulation and independence.
• Help learners overcome barriers to accessing and sustaining learning.
• Plan practical, creative and community-based activities that promote personal development.
• Support learners to manage distressed or dysregulated behaviour safely and positively.
• Work with tutors, families and professionals to implement individual support plans.
• Monitor learner engagement and progress and adapt mentoring strategies appropriately.
• Record attendance, activities, progress and concerns accurately.
• Travel to homes, schools, community venues and Sowing Seeds centres.
• Transport learners safely where this forms part of the role.
• Follow safeguarding procedures, individual risk assessments and transport arrangements.
• Report safeguarding or welfare concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
