Job summary

Novus is seeking a Learning and Skills Worker to deliver high-quality learning and skills support within prison education at HMP Hull. You will work directly with learners to build confidence, develop essential skills and progress towards future opportunities.

This permanent, full-time role offers 37 hours per week and a clear path into teaching. You will cover teaching sessions, develop your skills, and be paid in line with teaching pay scales.

Qualifications

• Willingness to develop a Level 5 Certificate in Education.
• Willingness to develop a Maths or English subject specialism.
• Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
• Experience conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups.
• Produce accurate and timely reporting.
• Demonstrate effective teamwork and interpersonal communication.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Hull, working as a Learning and Skills Worker. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Hull is a Category B men's local prison located in Kingston upon Hull in England. HMP Hull accommodates prisoners on remand to the local courts. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. The prisons aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be recruited as a Learning and Skills Worker, providing learning support with the aspiration to develop within teaching. You will provide support in the form of teaching cover while developing your skills and experience. When covering teaching sessions, you will be paid in accordance with teaching pay scales.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

• Willingness to develop and work towards a Level 5 Certificate in Education
• Willingness to develop a subject specialism in Maths or English
• Aspiration to progress into a Maths or English Teacher role
• At least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
• Enthusiasm and commitment to a career in teaching
• Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups
• Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities
• Proven track record of achieving performance targets
• Produce accurate and timely reporting
• Demonstrate effective team working and interpersonal communication skills
