Job summary

Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water is seeking a hands-on field operator to join our team for ongoing operation and maintenance of the underground water network. You will work to resolve leakage and network issues, minimising customer disruption while liaising with internal departments and partners.

The role requires a full driving licence and a solid customer-service background. The position is predominantly site-based with a company vehicle and standby rota after training.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Welsh Water’s underground water network.
• Help resolve network/leakage issues to maintain water supply and minimise customer disruption.
• Respond to customer and public queries, liaising with internal departments and partners.
• Achieve leakage targets using leakage reduction and detection techniques.
• Follow health and safety procedures and maintain personal safety.
• Organise workload with minimal supervision and prioritise tasks.
• Build relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders to support operational objectives.
• Support continuous improvement of network performance through inspections and investigations.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Working in this role, you will be part of a team responsible for the operation and maintenance of Welsh Water’s underground water network.
• You will help to resolve potential or actual network/leakage issues to ensure water supply is maintained and to minimise the level of inconvenience to the customer.
• Responding to and resolving issues raised by customers and members of the public, liaising with internal departments and contract partners as required.
• Ensuring Welsh Water leakage targets are achieved through the use of a range of leakage reduction and detection techniques.
• Following all company Health & Safety procedures, taking responsibility for your own safety and maintaining a duty of care towards colleagues, customers and the public.
• Managing challenging situations in a friendly, positive and professional manner, always striving to achieve a timely resolution.
• Maintaining accurate records and updating information across various IT systems on a daily basis.
• Effectively organising and prioritising your workload, working with minimal supervision and managing competing priorities within your area of responsibility.
• Building effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors and stakeholders to support the delivery of operational objectives.
• Supporting the continuous improvement of network performance through inspections, investigations and recommendations.
• Undertaking any other duties required to meet the needs of the business.

About you

Essential Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills

Qualifications

• Current full, valid driving licence
• GCSE Grade C in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification or experience in a relevant engineering, utilities, environmental, water operations or technical discipline

• Able to use Microsoft software packages along with the company’s internal packages, for example using operational, mapping and data management systems such as GIS and other industry-specific software packages (e.g. PMAC, LIBRA and LMARS)

Good to know

Hours, Location & Standby

• Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am to 4:00pm and Friday, 8:00am to 3:30pm.
• Standby: Participation in a standby rota will be required as part of this role following completion of training.
• Location: This is a predominantly site-based role with minimal office-based working.
• Vehicle: A company vehicle will be provided for business use.
