Job summary

RINA is seeking a highly experienced Lead Design Engineer to join its Power Systems Consulting team in the UK. The role involves delivering complex substation design and power systems studies for utilities, DNOs and data centers, with a hybrid working pattern from offices in Manchester, Leatherhead, Chippenham or Lincoln.

You will lead multi-discipline design teams, ensure compliance with ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE standards, and mentor junior engineers while coordinating with protection, civil and other

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering graduate, preferably CEng.
• 10+ years in electrical transmission & distribution environments, with UK project exposure.
• Experience with power systems up to 132 kV, ideally 400 kV across varied projects.
• Substation design, protection & control, and SCADA experience.
• Familiar with ENA/BS/IEC/IEEE/ANSI standards.
• Budgets, schedules, risk and change management exposure.
• Mentoring graduates and junior engineers.
• Knowledge of UK environmental & waste legislation.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation design projects from 11 kV to 400 kV.
• Lead client meetings and technical workshops.
• Produce design packages compliant with standards.
• Prepare and review calculations, reports and specifications.
• Develop technical documentation for FEED/concept-stage projects.
• Ensure CDM and regulatory compliance across projects.
• Drive Safety-by-Design across all work.
• Collaborate with Protection, Civil/Structural and other disciplines.
• Mentor junior engineers and graduates.
