Job summary

RINA is seeking a highly experienced Lead Design Engineer to join its Power Systems Consulting team in the UK, delivering complex Substation Design and Power Systems Studies for major energy clients.

You will lead HV/EHV projects up to 400 kV, mentor engineers, and collaborate across design, protection and control disciplines. The role offers hybrid working from UK offices including Leatherhead, with some UK travel.

Qualifications

• Electrical Engineering degree required or equivalent.
• CEng is preferred for senior leadership role.
• Minimum 10 years in electrical transmission/distribution environments; UK project experience expected.

Responsibilities

• Lead substation design projects from 11 kV to 400 kV including HV/EHV substations.
• Lead client meetings and technical workshops.
• Produce detailed design packages adhering to ENA, BS, IEC, IEEE, ANSI standards.
• Prepare engineering calculations, reports and equipment specs.
• Develop design reports and scheme evaluations for FEED/concept projects.
• Ensure CDM and regulatory compliance across projects.
• Drive Safety-by-Design across all deliverables.
• Support budgets, schedules, and risk management.
• Collaborate with Protection, Civil/Structural and other disciplines.
• Mentor junior engineers and graduates.
