Job summary

Government Recruitment Service is seeking a Lead Site Reliability Engineer in Birmingham to lead a team of SREs and provide technical leadership across the design, delivery and continuous improvement of reliable, scalable and secure services underpinning critical government digital products.

You will work with modern cloud technologies, drive observability, CI/CD, IaC, SLIs/SLOs, incident response and engineering automation, while coaching engineers and shaping platform strategy in partnership

Qualifications

• Experience leading SRE/DevOps teams in complex services.
• Strong grounding in reliability engineering and incident management.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, observability and automation practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of Site Reliability Engineers with technical direction.
• Provide cross-team leadership across SRE and DevOps to ensure reliable services.
• Design, build and maintain cloud infrastructure using IaC approaches.
• Lead adoption of observability: monitoring, logs, metrics, alerts.
• Define and use SLIs, SLOs and error budgets for reliability decisions.
• Improve CI/CD and automation to enable safe, frequent changes.
• Oversee live-service reliability and incident management with a blameless culture.
• Collaborate with product and architecture to meet user needs.
