Job summary

San Carlo Manchester is seeking a Sous Chef to lead daily kitchen operations, oversee food preparation and plating, and manage a team of kitchen staff.

You will hire, train, and schedule, ensuring food safety standards are met while maintaining a positive, motivated team environment. The role requires a hands-on leader who can mentor junior chefs and collaborate with restaurant management.

Qualifications

• 2 year’s experience in a similar role.
• Team management experience.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail, highly organised and capable of handling multiple tasks.
• A proactive self-starter who can work independently with good judgement and minimal direction.

Responsibilities

• Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and plating.
• Managing kitchen staff, including hiring, training, and scheduling.
• Maintaining a happy and engaged team through 1:1 meetings, incentives and recognition.
• Inductions for all new starters in line with company procedure.
• Manage the Junior Sous Chefs to ensure all training is to company standards.
• Mentor any new members of the team, to ensure a positive working experience.
• Ensuring that all kitchen staff follow food safety and sanitation guidelines and kitchen procedures.
• Managing food inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
• Ensuring that all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and repaired as needed.
• Collaborating with other kitchen staff and restaurant management to ensure that food is prepared and served in a timely manner.
• Handling customer complaints or issues related to food quality or service.
• Treat everyone with respect and remain calm at all times.
