Job summary

EMBL-EBI is seeking a Software Development Project Lead to steer the Europe PMC platform. You will lead backend and database teams, collaborate with product and data science, and drive the technical strategy for scalable, AI-enabled literature discovery services.

You will mentor staff, shape roadmaps, ensure high availability, and work across EMBL-EBI and international partners to accelerate scientific discovery in life sciences.

Qualifications

• Experience leading software engineering teams and delivering complex projects.
• Experience delivering in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban).
• Ability to manage stakeholders across technical and non-technical groups.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical development and long-term architecture of Europe PMC and related services.
• Define technical roadmaps to scale data volumes and AI capabilities.
• Mentor and develop a team of software engineers and data scientists.
• Collaborate with product, data science and engineering teams to deliver features and AI-enabled services.
• Prioritise work using Agile methodologies while balancing new functionality and reliability.
• Oversee large-scale data ingestion and processing pipelines from multiple providers.
• Ensure production reliability, performance and availability of Europe PMC services.
• Contribute to engineering best practices and delivery processes.
• Partner with EMBL-EBI and international teams on shared infrastructure and initiatives.
• Lead technical leadership and people management to advance science.
