Bauer Media invites applications for Lead Engineer to head a software-engineering squad in Manchester. You will combine hands-on contribution with day-to-day leadership, guiding technical decisions, maintaining standards, and supporting squad growth.

Collaborate with product and tech peers to align with strategic priorities. Role requires deep frontend and backend expertise across Java Spring Boot, TypeScript/React, AWS, Kubernetes, and Kafka, plus strong security and CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Solid hands-on software engineering experience across frontend and backend.
• Experience guiding technical decisions and setting squad standards.
• Strong grasp of software architecture, domain-driven design, and event-driven systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a software engineering squad with hands-on coding and code reviews.
• Mentor engineers and support growth through 1:1s and growth plans.
• Guide architectural decisions and technical direction within the squad.
