Job summary

Bauer Media Group in Manchester is seeking a Lead Engineer to blend hands-on software contribution with day-to-day squad leadership. You will mentor engineers, guide architectural decisions, and drive delivery with Product collaboration in a hybrid, full-time role.

You will foster a culture of engineering excellence, with focus on empathy, growth, and inclusivity while ensuring operational reliability and strong coding standards across frontend and backend systems.

Responsibilities

• Grow your team through 1:1s, performance reviews and growth plans.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers to build technical confidence.
• Write and review code as an active contributor and guide architecture decisions.
• Plan squad capacity, forecast hiring needs and allocate resources.
• Participate in roadmap, refinement and sprint planning with Product and leads.
• Define and sustain coding standards and review processes.
• Participate in incident management and runbooks, ensuring reliability.
