Job summary

Clayton Legal in Banbury is seeking an experienced Assistant Head of Residential Conveyancing to lead a busy team while continuing to handle a personal caseload.

The role combines team management, mentoring, and hands-on fee-earning work, with opportunities to drive development and networking, ensuring compliance with AML, SRA requirements and CQS, within a supportive, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' PQE or equivalent experience as a Solicitor, CILEX or CLC.
• Strong experience across a broad residential conveyancing caseload.
• Experience supervising, mentoring or developing junior team members.
• Strong technical knowledge of residential conveyancing and CQS requirements.
• Excellent client care and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support Head of Department with day-to-day team management.
• Support junior colleagues with complex matters and technical queries.
• Conduct performance and file reviews.
• Mentor and develop staff through training plans.
• Manage your own busy residential caseload.
• Handle sales, purchases, transfers of equity, shared ownership and leasehold matters.
• Support business development and networking activities.
• Work toward targets and KPIs.
• Assist with complaints, risk management and AML/CQS compliance.
• Represent department at meetings and lead in Head's absence.
