Job summary

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering in London is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial activities on large building and civil projects. You will manage all costs from initial estimates through final accounts, supporting value for money and governance standards.

Ideally Chartered (RICS/ICES/CIOB) with CPD, you will mentor junior colleagues and drive procurement, risk management and reporting across the project portfolio.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent professional experience.
• Membership of RICS, ICES or CIOB with CPD maintained or actively working towards membership.
• Professionally qualified with a valid CSCS card or ability to obtain accreditation.
• Strong commercial management experience including cost control, pricing, forecasts and cost reporting.
• Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers, tenders, procurement and supply chain relationships.
• Ability to identify commercial risks, cost-sensitive areas and opportunities to improve outcomes.
• Solid understanding of project governance, programme monitoring and stakeholder requirements.
• Collaborative and proactive with a focus on people development and digital working methods.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to governance requirements while maximising LEAN and digital ways of working.
• Apply commercial management principles including cost control and lifecycle costs.
• Manage subcontractors and supply chain partners to support delivery.
• Identify cost-sensitive areas, mitigate risks, and support risk and opportunity management.
• Prepare and manage pricing documents, BOQs, target costs, forecasts and budgets.
• Monitor progress against programme, KPIs and budgets; report on commercial performance.
• Lead procurement activities, evaluating and negotiating tenders with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Support recruitment, development and people management for direct and indirect reports.
