Job summary

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering in London is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial function across large building and civil engineering projects from initial estimates to final accounts.

You will oversee cost control, pricing, forecasts and budgets, manage subcontractors and the wider supply chain, and mentor junior colleagues toward professional qualification. Chartered status or progress with RICS/ICES/CIOB is preferred.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
• Membership of RICS/ICES/CIOB with CPD maintained or actively working towards membership.
• Professionally qualified with a valid CSCS card, or ability to obtain accreditation.
• Strong commercial management experience including cost control, pricing, forecasts and budgets.
• Experience managing subcontractors, suppliers, tenders, procurement activity and supply chain relationships.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to governance requirements while identifying opportunities to maximise LEAN and digital ways of working.
• Apply commercial management principles, including cost control, elemental cost analysis, and lifecycle cost considerations.
• Manage subcontractors and wider supply chain partners to support project delivery.
• Identify cost-sensitive areas, mitigate commercial risks, and support risk and opportunity management.
• Prepare and manage pricing documents, activity schedules, bills of quantities, target costs, forecasts and budgets.
• Monitor progress against programme, budgets, and critical commercial processes.
• Prepare delay and disruption programmes and support accurate reporting of progress.
• Manage customer and stakeholder commercial requirements, including cost planning and pre-contract cost control.
• Lead procurement by evaluating and negotiating tenders with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Support recruitment, development and people management for reports.
