Job summary

Harrington Starr is seeking a Python Backend Engineer to join a small, highly collaborative team in the UK fintech space. You will design, build and maintain scalable backend applications, contribute to product features from concept through to production, and shape technical solutions in partnership with Product and stakeholders.

The role emphasizes ownership of architecture, performance improvements, and working across the full software lifecycle in a fast-paced product environment.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience developing applications in Python.
• Experience building scalable backend applications and APIs.
• Experience working on SaaS or product-focused platforms.
• Strong SQL and relational database knowledge.
• Familiarity with AWS or other cloud platforms.
• A collaborative approach and a passion for writing clean, maintainable code.
• Experience working within Agile engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend applications in Python.
• Develop new product features from concept through to production.
• Collaborate with Product and stakeholders to shape technical solutions.
• Build and consume RESTful APIs.
• Contribute to architecture and engineering best practices.
• Improve application performance, scalability and reliability.
• Participate in code reviews and mentoring where appropriate.
