Job summary

ITM Power in Sheffield seeks a Process Safety Manager to lead process safety and functional safety activities across projects. You will chair HAZOP/LOPA studies, develop safety documentation and lead a safety-engineering team, driving compliance with UK/EU standards and IEC guidelines.

The role requires strong knowledge of PHA methods, QRA, SIS testing procedures and risk assessment, with an emphasis on delivering safe, compliant designs in a fast-moving hydrogen technology environment.

Qualifications

• Engineering or related degree; Chartered status or pursuing IChemE or similar.
• Minimum 5 years as process/functional safety engineer in hydrogen, chemicals or industrial gases.
• Certified Functional Safety Engineer status (advantageous) and capable of chairing HAZOP/LOPA.
• Experience with DSEAR, ATEX, IEC Ex and related UK/EU safety standards.
• Knowledge of hazardous area classification and safety case preparation.
• Ability to work within ISO 9001/ISO 45001 QMS.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate and lead PHA studies (HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA) and close-out actions.
• Lead technical safety reviews and develop Basis of Safety documentation.
• Develop FSM plan and FSA stages 1–5.
• Mentor a small team of safety engineers.
• Create/review Safety Instrumented Systems test procedures.
• Improve process safety awareness across ITM via training and guidance.
• Liaise with customers/regulators as needed.
