Overview

Lead Platform Engineer (Microsoft 365)

We are seeking Platform Engineers who are passionate about creating and supporting DevOps tools with emerging technologies. As a Lead Platform Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to be on the forefront of driving a major transformation within Capital One.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues: Diagnose and resolve technical problems related to O365 services and integrations.
  • Monitor system performance, security, and data integrity, taking proactive measures to address potential problems.
  • Design and implement integrations: Connect O365 with other systems and applications using APIs and web services.
  • Automate tasks and processes: Use PowerShell or other scripting to automate administrative tasks and workflows.
  • Develop and maintain clear documentation and training materials for users.
  • Focus on building and maintaining the underlying operational aspects of the platform including remediating vulnerabilities.
  • Work closely with the Architecture team to align the platforms to latest architecture and configuration.
  • Encourage innovation, automation, implementation of cutting-edge technologies, outside-of-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization and a modern legacy process.
  • Develop and utilize best practices to enhance the overall user experience of the platform.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers to ensure software works seamlessly on the platforms.
  • Work with product owners to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios.
  • Continuously improve platform engineering practices and proactively identify risks and mitigate them.
  • Design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across a full stack of development tools and technologies within Agile teams.
  • Stay up-to-date with tech trends, experiment with new technologies, participate in technical communities, and mentor other engineers.
  • Directly and indirectly lead teams of engineers and people leaders to build strategy for each platform and drive Well Managed practices at Capital One.
  • Utilize scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and others.
  • Experience with Container Orchestration (e.g., Docker, ECS), configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible), Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform), and a variety of AWS services.
  • Collaborate with LOB stakeholders and leadership to pursue complex business opportunities and guide decisions.
Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
  • At least 4 years of experience using build and deployment tools (Jenkins, GitHub, or Artifactory)
  • At least 2 years of experience with AWS or Azure
  • At least 4 years of experience administering Microsoft O365 or another enterprise productivity suite
  • At least 4 years of Integration Project Involvement: Experience designing, implementing, and supporting integrations between Microsoft O365
  • At least 2 years of experience with cloud computing concepts, including SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering
  • 6+ years of experience using build and deployment tools (Jenkins, GitHub, or Artifactory)
  • 6+ years of experience administering Microsoft O365 or another enterprise productivity suite
  • 4+ years of experience in scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
  • 4+ years of experience working with Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or others

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries are for candidates hired to work within the specified locations. Part-time salaries will be prorated.

McLean, VA: $158,400 - $180,800 for Lead Platform Engineer

Plano, TX: $144,000 - $164,400 for Lead Platform Engineer

Richmond, VA: $144,000 - $164,400 for Lead Platform Engineer

Other locations will use the pay range for that location; the offer letter will reflect the actual amount.

This role is also eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non-discretionary depending on the plan.
