Job description

We are excited to offer an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, and forward-thinking pharmacist to join our Pharmacy Specialist Medicine Team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The team provides clinical pharmacy services across several specialties within the Specialist Medicine directorates. In this role, you will be the lead pharmacy contact for diabetes/endocrinology and selected respiratory services, with additional opportunities to support dermatology in the absence of the senior lead pharmacist.

You will also gain valuable experience in:

  • Financial reporting (e.g. biosimilar savings, CIP schemes)
  • Guideline development and review
  • Formulary and interface work

We are looking for a self-motivated and organised individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You should be confident working with a wide range of healthcare professionals and comfortable using various IT systems and databases.

Main duties of the job

As the successful candidate, you will work closely with the senior lead pharmacist and wider team to deliver and develop a high-quality, patient-focused pharmacy service. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting inpatient and outpatient prescribing across your designated specialties.
  • Providing ward-based clinical pharmacy services.
  • Managing Homecare services and funding applications for high-cost medicines.
  • Monitoring and processing Homecare prescriptions.

Education / Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Higher degree or diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent relevant postgraduate experience
  • Qualified as an Independent Prescriber
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain
  • Related Post Graduate Qualification
Experience
  • Appropriate post-registration training and experience in hospital Pharmacy in the UK - this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice (medicines information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing)
  • Experience of working with Specialist Medicine patients
  • Experience of managing funding applications for high cost drugs
  • Demonstrable use of clinical audit to improve practice
  • Experience of drug expenditure reporting
  • Evidence of research or project work
  • Experience delivering CQUINs or other cost improvement schemes
  • Experience of staff line management
