Job summary

Natural Resources Wales (Cyfoeth Naturiol Cymru) invites applications for a Lead Officer in the Installations and RSR Permitting Team. You will provide permitting focus for the Wylfa Nuclear Power Station project from pre-application support through to determination of the Radioactive Substances permit application.

Qualifications

• Strong scientific background with chemistry, engineering or maths.
• Experience in environmental regulation and permits assessment.
• Ability to lead robust technical assessments and decision-making on permits.
• Mentor colleagues and build team capability while driving process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Provide permitting focus for the Wylfa Nuclear Power Station project from pre-application support through to determination of the Radioactive Substances permit.
• Lead on complex environmental permit applications across major Welsh industries such as refineries, combustion plants, landfills, metals processing and radioactive substances.
• Represent the service at public events and inquiries; respond to complex queries.
• Mentor peers, develop the team's capability and contribute to planning and regulatory framework improvements.
• Engage with stakeholders and ensure compliance with NRW environmental standards.
