Job summary

Qualifications

• Relevant vocational qualifications (BEng/BSc/HNC/HND Desirable).
• Membership of IET or IHE.
• Working towards IEng or CEng level.
• Competent in ITS/ Technology Design and Assessment.
• Knowledge of CDM and other H&S legislation.
• Proficient in Designer and Principal Designer duties under CDM.
• Excellent IT skills and MS Office.
• Knowledge of design/assessment standards (DMRB/MCHW/IEC/18th Edition IET).
• Working knowledge of ITS/ Technology equipment (CCTV, signals, VMS, ERT, MIDAS).

Responsibilities

• Complete ITS/ Technology design for CCTV, signals, VMS, ERT, MIDAS etc on time and to budget.
• Produce, check and certify designs and reports for submission to National Highways.
• Assist wider Design Team in Improvement and Renewal Schemes.
• Deliver outcomes on time and to budget to standards and legal requirements.
• In-house design of selected technology packages.
• Undertake optioneering and feasibility of design solutions and preparation of whole life costing.
• Develop briefs with the design team and design suppliers, to cover scope, budget and programme.
• Prepare and submit instructions to design suppliers.
• Contribute to the Design Review Process (Certification) in accordance with the DBFO contract.
• Ensure that all designs meet the CPS internal standards.
• Work with the Project Manager for internal reviews during the design phase to ensure timely sign-off.
• Contribute to design and supplier costs and review supplier invoices.
• Liaise with National Highways on technical issues and submissions.
• Liaise internally with other teams within Connect Plus (CP) and CPS as required.
• Liaise with statutory bodies/authorities as required.
• Report to the project manager on performance against budget and programme.
• Lead innovation and continual improvement in delivery of schemes and techniques.
• Support development of in-house design capability and process improvements.
• Capture learning and share it across the business.
• Deputise for line manager as required.
• Ensure the Principal Designer duties are met under CDM.
• Support the delivery of Sustainability activities.
