Job summary

Kier Group is seeking a Senior Technology Design Engineer to lead highways technology design within our Technology Design team in the UK. You will own outputs from concept to implementation, ensuring right-first-time delivery across ITS, communications and power systems.

You will act as the technical authority, coordinating across civil, electrical, mechanical and systems teams, while mentoring engineers and driving integration and BIM adoption.

Qualifications

• HNC/Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering or equivalent.
• Significant experience in highways technology design.
• Proven experience leading design delivery and assurance activities.
• Strong knowledge of National Highways standards and governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead technology design packages across ITS, communications and power systems.
• Own design outputs from concept through to implementation.
• Act as technical authority within design assurance and gateway approvals.
• Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways and industry standards; manage technical risk.
• Provide SME leadership across ITS, networks and smart infrastructure systems.
• Drive multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical, mechanical and systems teams.
• Interface with clients; lead workshops and stakeholder engagement.
• Support programme delivery with progress, risk and performance reporting.
• Drive continuous improvement, digital engineering and BIM adoption.
• Lead input into bids; develop compliant and competitive solutions.
• Mentor and develop engineers; build team capability and high-performance culture.
