Job summary

Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) is recruiting a Primary Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical layouts for substations up to 400kV and to mentor junior team members. The role blends site, office and remote work as part of a hybrid setup in Leeds.

You will work within the BESS team with engineers and designers, delivering end-to-end electrical design and integration with construction and commissioning teams.

Qualifications

• Degree/HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems Electrical preferred).
• Experience in primary electrical design with consultancy, contractor or utility in the Power industry.
• Experience in HV AC power systems and producing electrical layout drawings for substations, switchrooms and balance of plant.
• Understanding of TO/DNO specifications and industry HV/EHV standards.
• Knowledge of cable installation types and parameters.
• Proactive, self-driven with initiative.

Responsibilities

• Determine base electrical site layout, including external connections and compliance with DNO/IDNO/client requirements.
• Coordinate systems studies and ensure outputs are incorporated into detailed design and equipment specs.
• Contribute to specifications for major plant items and approve manufacturer information.
• Design equipment support structures for AIS equipment from 66kV to 400kV and liaise with manufacturers.
• Lead electrical design integration of inverters, BESS enclosures, PCS units and transformers.
• Produce site wide ducting/cabling layouts and understand cable types/installation techniques.
• Develop earthing layouts for multiple voltage levels from first principles.
• Liaise with installation and commissioning teams to ensure proper testing and delivery.
• Contribute to standardised systems, processes, designs and specifications.
