Job summary

OCU Group seeks a Senior Protection and Control Engineer to lead the design and delivery of protection and control systems for HV and EHV substations across the UK. You will work within the electrical design function, ensuring safe, reliable and compliant solutions within a large-scale DNO framework.

You will coordinate with engineers across disciplines, undertake protection studies and relay settings, and provide technical assurance from design through handover.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or electronic engineering (or equivalent).
• Proven experience delivering protection and control designs for HV/EHV substations, ideally in DNO/ICP environments.
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage protection principles, relays, control schemes, SCADA, RTUs and communications.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and review of protection and control designs (S LDs, schematics, wiring diagrams, control philosophies).
• Ensure designs comply with DNO requirements, standards and project specs.
• Perform protection studies, fault level assessments, relay settings, coordination studies and submit to DNO.
• Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated protection solutions across HV/EHV substations.
• Provide technical assurance ensuring safety, reliability and fit-for-purpose operation.
• Support reviews, testing, commissioning and handover; ensure documentation is complete.
