Job summary

Mint Selection is recruiting a Protection & Control Design Engineer to support major UK electrical infrastructure projects. You will design and review protection systems for substations, produce SLDs and control diagrams, and ensure compliance with client standards and industry regulations.

You will collaborate with clients, DNOs, TSOs, EPC contractors and equipment manufacturers, travel across UK sites as required and contribute to the delivery lifecycle from design to as-built documentation.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years’ experience in Protection & Control engineering and design.
• Experience designing protection/control for HV/EHV substations.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850 and substation automation.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed protection and control designs for substations and grid infrastructure.
• Develop protection schematics, wiring diagrams and drawings.
• Produce and review SLDs, protection schematics and control diagrams.
• Develop protection philosophies per project requirements and client standards.
• Design protection schemes for HV and EHV networks.
• Develop control circuits for switchgear, breakers, isolators and transformers.
• Produce cable schedules, termination diagrams and interconnection drawings.
• Develop and review protection settings documentation and calculations.
• Design interfaces between relays, IEDs, RTUs and SCADA systems.
• Support IEC 61850-based protection and control integration.
• Review client specs, network standards and technical requirements.
• Ensure designs comply with standards and checks.
• Coordinate solutions with project teams and clients.
• Liaise with DNOs, TSOs, EPCs, manufacturers and suppliers.
• Collaborate with SCADA, telecoms, civil, electrical and commissioning teams.
• Review equipment specifications and documentation.
• Support design changes and engineering modifications.
• Provide technical support during project delivery.
• Maintain design documentation to project standards.
• Support final as-built documentation and records.
