Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Protection & Control Design Engineer in the UK to lead HV/EHV substation protection design, develop SLDs and wiring diagrams, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure IEC/IEEE compliance. The role emphasizes delivering protection relay panels, RTU/SCADA interfaces, and rigorous coordination with project stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in HV/EHV Substation Protection & Control Design.
• Knowledge of protection schemes for Transmission and Distribution substations.
• Experience with protection relays from Siemens, GE, ABB/Hitachi Energy, Schneider Electric, or SEL.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Protection & Control designs for HV/EHV substations (11kV–400kV or above).
• Develop Protection Single Line Diagrams, AC/DC Schematics, Wiring Diagrams, Terminal Plans, Cable Schedules.
• Design Protection Relay Panels, Control Panels, Annunciation Panels, Metering Panels, and RTU/SCADA interfaces.
• Prepare relay settings philosophy and coordinate with system studies as applicable.
• Perform protection coordination and review relay configurations.
• Prepare engineering calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop and battery sizing.
• Coordinate with Civil, Primary, Telecom, and SCADA teams.
• Review vendor drawings and ensure project compliance.
• Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and issue resolution.
• Ensure designs meet IEC, IEEE, National Grid and client standards.
• Support project execution with quality, safety, and schedule adherence.
