RenEco Haulage is seeking a Lead HGV Mechanic to manage the workshop, mentor a small team of technicians and ensure fleet reliability in Rushden. You will coordinate with the Transport Manager to comply with regulations, oversee training, and drive performance improvements in maintenance, safety and fault diagnosis.

The role requires supervisory experience, a City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, and a valid driving license.

Qualifications

• Supervisory experience required.
• Technical qualification (City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3) or proven experience repairing & maintaining vehicles.
• Valid driving license needed.
• Able to work within guidelines and meet deadlines.
• Proactive in solving problems and communicating clearly.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the workshop, leading a small team of mechanics.
• Work with the Transport Manager and compliance team to meet fleet regulatory requirements.
• Ensure workshop staff have required training and qualifications; develop the team.
• Adhere to Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices.
• Carry out planned inspection, service, maintenance and repair of vehicles and trailers.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults.
• Utilise fault diagnostic equipment knowledge.
• MOT preparation.
• Provide mobile assistance as required.
• Ensure safe handling of vehicles and cleanliness of workshop.

Job description

Lead HGV Mechanic

We are currently looking for a Lead HGV Mechanic to join our expanding Transport Department. Reporting to the Transport Manager, we are seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic with experience in inspection and repair of fleet vehicles and trailers. Our Lead HGV Mechanic will oversee the day to day operations of a small team of mechanics and play an important role in the compliance, reliability and performance of our fleet.

What you’ll do in the position

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the workshop, leading a small team of mechanics


• Working closely with the Transport Manager and compliance team to ensure all legal requirements of the fleet are met


• Ensuring that the Workshop Department has the required product knowledge /training/qualifications. Working with the wider management team to develop and progress the team


• Ensure Health & Safety regulations and safe working practices are adhered to by the HGV Workshop Department


• Carry out planned inspection, service, maintenance and repair of all types of vehicles and trailers in line with current regulatory guidance


• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults


• Possess a working knowledge of fault diagnostic equipment


• MOT preparation


• Provide mobile assistance as required


• Ensure all vehicles worked upon are handled carefully and that all precautions are taken whilst on the premises


• Liaise with parts suppliers to attain parts


• Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within the workshop area

What you’ll need

• Supervisory experience

• Valid Driving License


• Ability to work within guidelines given and to strict deadlines

A HGV Licence will be advantageous, but not necessary
