Job summary

SER Limited in Ballymena is seeking a skilled HGV Mechanic to perform maintenance, servicing, and repairs on our fleet of tractor units and trailers at the Ballymena maintenance facility. You will report to the Workshop Manager and ensure vehicles remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with legal and company standards.

The role requires fault-finding, diagnostics, and hands-on repairs with a focus on safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years in a similar HGV mechanic role.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic abilities.
• Welding experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine maintenance, servicing, and repairs on HGV trucks and trailers.
• Complete scheduled safety inspections and report any defects identified.
• Prepare vehicles and trailers for annual testing and inspections.
• Attend vehicle breakdowns, diagnose faults, and carry out repairs where required.
• Complete all relevant job cards, inspection reports, and maintenance documentation accurately.
• Respond positively to changing workloads and operational priorities.
• Follow all Health & Safety policies and safe working procedures.
• Report recurring faults, safety concerns, or equipment issues to the Workshop Manager.
• Support colleagues and work collaboratively to ensure maximum workshop efficiency.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Workshop Manager and based at our maintenance facility in Ballymena, the successful applicants will carry out all aspects of planned and reactive maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs on our fleet of HGV tractor units and trailers. The role is key to ensuring all vehicles remain safe, roadworthy, and fully compliant with all legal and company standards.

Essential Criteria

• Ideally hold an industry-recognised mechanical qualification or have a minimum of two years' experience in a similar HGV mechanic role.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills with the ability to identify and complete effective repairs.
• Welding experience is desirable.
• HGV driving licence preferred but not essential.
• Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving ability.
• Positive attitude with a strong customer-focused approach.
• Good communication and literacy skills.
• Flexible approach to working hours in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements.
